What is a
Therapeutic
Dungeons and Dragons
Group?

Dungeons and Dragons (also known as D&D) is a game about collaborative storytelling! Players create characters and with support from a Game Master (GM), interact with the world the story takes place in. A game can last as short as a few hours for one time, or several short sessions over a longer period of time in what are called "campaigns".

D&D provides a space for teens and adults alike to connect with peers, as well as explore aspects of their own identity. The creativity of the game also provides opportunities to develop social skills, emotional regulation, mistake making tools, and communication. Often, folks find this a safer space to try on different ways of being in connection with others due to the imaginative qualities of the game.

What a Therapeutic D&D group is....and isn't!

This D&D group is a therapeutic space for teens who are struggling with identity, mood, relationships and seeking a space to find others to be in community with in navigating those areas of struggle. While folks in this group may have therapeutic needs, this group differs from other kinds of group therapy in that there is no direct processing of symptoms or mental health diagnoses. The group is run by licensed mental health counselor Kc Schuck, LMHC, ATR who holds the space and supports the group in navigating narrative successes and challenges.
